why are you hiding?

Gen 3:1-13
The serpent was the craftiest of all the creatures the Lord God had made. So the serpent came to the woman. "Really?" he asked. "None of the fruit in the garden? God says you mustn't eat any of it?"
2-3 "Of course we may eat it," the woman told him. "It's only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we are not to eat. God says we mustn't eat it or even touch it, or we will die."
4 "That's a lie!" the serpent hissed. "You'll not die!
5 God knows very well that the instant you eat it you will become like him, for your eyes will be opened-you will be able to distinguish good from evil!"
6 The woman was convinced. How lovely and fresh looking it was! And it would make her so wise! So she ate some of the fruit and gave some to her husband, and he ate it too.
7 And as they ate it, suddenly they became aware of their nakedness, and were embarrassed. So they strung fig leaves together to cover themselves around the hips.
8 That evening they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden; and they hid themselves among the trees.
9 The Lord God called to Adam, "Why are you hiding?"
10 And Adam replied, "I heard you coming and didn't want you to see me naked. So I hid."
11 "Who told you you were naked?" the Lord God asked. "Have you eaten fruit from the tree I warned you about?"
12 "Yes," Adam admitted, "but it was the woman you gave me who brought me some, and I ate it."
13 Then the Lord God asked the woman, "How could you do such a thing?" "The serpent tricked me," she replied.

Man and woman. Two creations of God that are to compliment each other. One to lead, one to support, both cannot do without the other. If the man cannot direct the way how can the woman follow. If the man doesn’t protect, who else will against the serpent? Together they are stronger. Remember, a threefold cord is not easily broken. Three: man + woman + God.

Eccl 4:12
And though a man might prevail against him who is alone, two will withstand him. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.

God came to the garden looking for Adam, not Eve. Because he is supposed to be the man. But he failed. And males throughout the Bible and even today still fail. Because the first Adam sinned, all have fallen short of the glory of God. But the second Adam was there to restore all things. The first Adam was hiding from God when he realized he sinned. ‘The great cover up’ sounds a lot like what’s happening in the banking failure today (eg. Enron), the failure of morality in the name of freedom, the failure of families in the name of choice.
Right now I’m feeling like Adam. And I really thank God it’s now that I woke up and not later. It’s like missing the alarm clock that went at 7am and you wake at 720, missing the train or bus or appointment or whatever. But when you calm down, it dawns that waking at 720 is way better than sleeping till 8am.
But I’m not going to push the blame to someone else, like what Adam did, like what the world is doing today. The buck stops with me, but I am powerless by myself. I must remember to fall to God at all times. Being a man is a matter of choice and a lot of determination. It’s not easy because it’s a lot to ask for. He is there to point the direction, then to walk first towards it. To blaze the trail and pave the way, and then to ensure that those following are on their feet. Should any fall, he needs to stop to attend. At each point, God needs to be consulted. Go to God. When it’s the other way round, when the boss comes to the workfloor, you know its way out of your hands. And when anyone fails, he has got to be answerable.
That’s a tall order. No wonder guys are just happy being males, and never think of becoming men. Going there seems to be stretching myself more than I think I can bear. I have trouble taking care of one person (myself) what makes me think I can handle another? I really need the Holy Spirit. Me + God = we form the majority. For if God is on our side, who can be against us. Notice the word ‘US’.
There must be a togetherness before God comes in. Life is not a solo, single player game. It’s a multiplayer MMORPG. Its always on, always full of people, and always takes a long time to complete. The only difference between life and a game is the missing ‘restart’ button. There is a leader, but there must be someone to follow. And both must agree on the direction to walk, the distance to walk, and the speed of walking. We humans go by democracy but remember that God works by monarchy.
I need to stop hiding.
